Over the past two weeks, our team at C + A Design had the privilege of volunteering at S6 Foodbank, a vital local charity providing emergency food support to individuals and families in crisis. Based in Sheffield, S6 Foodbank is part of The Trussell Trust network, working tirelessly to combat hunger and poverty across the UK.
To maximise our impact, we divided into two teams, each spending a morning at the foodbank’s warehouse. Our tasks ranged from sorting donations and packing food parcels to unloading and organising large pallets. We were amazed not only by the sheer volume of donations but also by the scale of the operation itself, which was far larger than we had anticipated. The level of coordination required to ensure every parcel is balanced and ready for distribution was truly impressive.

Our time at the S6 Foodbank provided an excellent opportunity to give back to the community where we work. It was particularly inspiring to learn the breadth of services that the S6 Foodbank offer including facilitating a national supply chain for other foodbanks around the country!
In total, we helped prepare nearly 400 food boxes that will be distributed in the coming weeks. Witnessing the thoughtful planning that goes into creating parcels for individuals and families was eye-opening. Our time at S6 Foodbank was both rewarding and insightful, giving us a deeper appreciation for the dedication and hard work that goes into running such an essential service.
S6 Foodbank plays a crucial role in our community, not only by providing emergency food parcels but also by offering support and guidance to help people facing financial hardship find long-term solutions. With demand for foodbanks higher than ever, their work is more important than ever before.

Volunteering at the S6 foodbank was not only a deeply rewarding experience, where I had the opportunity to make a tangible positive impact on the lives of those in urgent need, but it also served as a powerful reminder of the fundamental necessities that sustain us. In the end, what we truly need to thrive are a few basic essentials—such as food—and the reassurance of belonging to a supportive network of people we trust, love, and who offer us support in return.
We encourage everyone to support S6 Foodbank in any way they can—whether through donating food, contributing funds, or volunteering time. Every bit of help makes a tangible difference to those in need. To learn more or find out how you can get involved, visit S6 Foodbank’s website.
