We’re celebrating over here at C+A Design because Ascona’s latest site, Machynlleth Service Station, had its grand opening on 24th August! This is the latest completed project that we have designed for Ascona and was definitely the most complex! In order to replace the existing, dilapidated petrol station with a modern and functional one, we had to overcome several major issues during the design phase and on site.
These issues included flood risk, Japanese Knotweed, asbestos, remediation of historic ground contamination, high ground water, piled foundations, over head power cables, a culvert diversion, and close proximity to a rail line, which involved consulting with network rail. On top of all that, the site was very limited in terms of space.
All this we managed seamlessly, working alongside the main contractor Toureen Retail, to produce the offer that now stands today. We were able to maximise the space, by designing the building with two stories, we introduced more pumps –including new additions of AdBlue and kerosene, replaced the jet wash and even included a rollover carwash. The building now boasts a bigger store, with a Starbucks coffee counter, hot food offer and indoor seating.
Darren, CEO of Ascona, summed it up perfectly: ‘Words can’t describe this exceptional site transformation. This is without a doubt the next evolution of roadside retail!’
