ASDA Bristol Whiteladies
The site for this project sat on a steep sloping arterial route into Bristol within a historic conservation area. The existing facility was uninspiring, tired and often congested; the new design had an echelon format which increased the number of pumps, reduced congestion and added a larger shop with a click and collect facility. The sensitive design incorporated local material, creating a striking appearance, and made use of the site’s topography to increase its visual impact while respecting the nature of the area. During the construction of the project previously unrecorded underground tanks were removed and the ground was remediated. Samples of rock were also supplied to Bristol University’s Palaeontology department as the local geology is known to contain rare fossils but is rarely exposed.
